Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) Policy
Diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) are not only ethical imperatives in scholarly publishing—they are foundational elements of academic progress. Forbes Journal of Medicine, under the institutional framework of Buca Seyfi Demirsoy Training and Research Hospital, is committed to fostering and sustaining a publication environment grounded in these principles.
Expanding Representation
The journal supports the greater participation of researchers, editors, and reviewers from communities historically underrepresented in scientific publishing, including individuals differentiated by race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability status, socioeconomic background, or geographic location.
Selection of authors, reviewers, and editors is based solely on scholarly merit and relevance to the journal’s scope. Personal identity, religious or political views, institutional affiliation, or similar characteristics play no role in editorial or peer-review decisions.
Inclusive Editorial Structures
Editorial boards, advisory committees, and reviewer pools are encouraged to reflect diversity across academic disciplines, career stages, geographic regions, and lived experiences. Regular assessments of editorial structures are recommended to ensure ongoing improvement in representation and inclusivity.
Unbiased and Culturally Sensitive Evaluation
Editors and reviewers must conduct all evaluations with neutrality, professional respect, and cultural awareness. To mitigate unconscious bias, the journal supports the development of awareness practices and editorial training programs.
Accessible Publishing
The journal and its parent institution consider accessibility a key responsibility in digital publishing. Accordingly:
• All published content is expected to comply with national and international accessibility standards.
• Continuous improvements are made to reduce technical barriers and develop accessible formats.
• Research focusing on health inequities, social determinants of health, and access to care is given particular emphasis.
Feedback and Reporting Concerns
All stakeholders share responsibility for reporting any concerns or potential violations of DEIA principles. Such reports are handled independently, confidentially, and in accordance with the ethical procedures defined by COPE.
Institutional Commitment
Buca Seyfi Demirsoy Training and Research Hospital is committed to strengthening a transparent, fair, and participatory academic environment within Forbes Journal of Medicine. Creating a publication ecosystem in which diverse voices are visible and can contribute on equal terms is a core institutional priority.
